Monk in theft case bailed

A man in yellow robe who resided at the Havanpola Temple was arrested by Galewela police for a theft he committed in 2018 and produced him before the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court recently.

Magistrate I.M.S.B. Illangasingha imposed three sureties, each Rs. 100,000, on the suspect and ordered him to appear in court on due date. Police informed court that the suspect was staying at the Anuradhapura Vidyananda Pirivena at the time and has stolen a purse and a passport of another bhikku residing there in 2018. Subsequently, the suspect had left that place.

Police found the passport with the suspect. Galewela police led the evidence.
