Avant Garde floating armoury case suspects further remanded

Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekulawela further remanded the four suspects of the case regarding Avant Garde floating armory operated on sea near Galle Harbor until September 20 when they were produced before him yesterday.

The four suspects further remanded are the fourth suspect, former Rakna Lanka Security Firm Chairman Victor Samaraweera, fifth suspect, retired Major General Palitha Fernando, sixth respondent, retired Major General K.B. Egodawela and Police Commission Secretary Saman Dissanayake. Submitting a further report on the respondents the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials told the court that Chief Justice had appointed a three judge bench to hear the Avant Garde case and the suspects had been already indicted.

In response to the submissions of the prosecution the lawyers for the suspects alleged that the CID officials are trying to drag the case by entangling unwanted courses. They further pleaded the magistrate to allow the 5th, 6th and 7th suspects to continue medical treatment at Sri the Jayawardhanapura Hospital.
