Kanjipani Imran ordered to be produced in court on Monday

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday issued an order directing the Boossa Prison authorities to produce drug kingpin Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran alias ‘Kanjipani Imran’ before the court on September 9.

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) informed the court that Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran alias ‘Kanjipani Imran’ has been accused of verbally abusing and issuing death threats to two constables attached to the Keselwatte Police station, over the telephone, while he (Kanjipani Imran) was out of the country.

The CCD further told court that the suspect Kanjipani Imran had levelled death threats in order to obtain the release of an accomplice who had been arrested over a narcotics-related case.

The CCD said Kanjipani’s accomplice was arrested by Keselwatte Police officers with 20 grams and 840 milligrammes of heroin in his possession.

The Colombo Crime Division requested court to issue an order for the mobile service provider Airtel to submit details of phone calls under the mobile number used by Kanjipani Imran.

Taking the facts into consideration, the Magistrate instructed the CCD to make their request on September 9.
