New rules for state expenses approved

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a new circular presented by President Maithripala Sirisena on managing state expenses. It revised the previous circular issued in 2010 which imposed ceilings on the expenditure of private staff and other facilities provided to Ministers, Non-Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

The Government Information Department in its press release announcing Cabinet decisions said the ceilings had been revised “to suit the contemporary needs and to include more provisions.”
