No drug shortage – Health Ministry

Medical Supplies Division Director Dr. A.T. Sudarshana said there is no drug shortage in the Central Drug Stores.

Only a few hospitals had informed them of a shortage of 20 or 30 drugs and the usual system would be implemented to restore supplies. People can obtain drugs free from hospitals and hospital directors have been given authority for local purchases whenever required, Dr. Sudarshana said.

He said only four drugs are not available at Apeksha (cancer) Hospital, Maharagama and the hospital should purchase those drugs according to the usual system. All required funds and facilities have already been given to the hospital to purchase drugs.

Now it is impossible for a real or artificial drug shortage to occur at any state hospital because all state hospitals are connected through a network and all required drugs can be exchanged among them, he said.
