The spiritual head of the world Anglican commune, the dazzling Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Welby is a gift from God to all of us no matter to what faith one belongs because he is committed to foster peace and love among nations. When he arrived in Sri Lanka, he was emotionally moved by the disaster Christians suffered from terrorist attacks as he visited the St. Sebastian Church, Katuwapitiya where more than a hundred people lost their lives. He was received by the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Sri Lanka, Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Rangit. Welby bowed his head and prayed for the departed and later spoke to some of the survivors. Welby emphasized the need for Christian unity which he widely demonstrated after being consecrated as the head of our church.

WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE TO HAPPEN Christians all over the world have been waiting for Christian unity when they found the church in turmoil, splitting into thousands of splinter groups. Not that some church leaders tried to comprehend the situation but due to many reasons, mainly of social and political reasons, the church worldwide kept deterioration.

Suddenly things changed with the coming of the new Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury who together has pledged to work alongside the way our Lord preached two thousand years ago.

Pope Francis received the Primate of all England and the head of the worldwide Anglican Communion, Archbishop Justin Welby. He also recalled that at the ceremony of his taking possession of the Cathedral of Canterbury, the Archbishop prayed for the new Bishop of Rome, a gesture that the Pope was deeply grateful for. He added ‘Since we began our respective ministries within days of each other, I think we will always have a particular reason to support each other in prayer’ Already the Christian world is waking up, warming up to their togetherness.

‘Oh, Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder

Consider all the works Thy hand hath done,

I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder

The power throughout the universe displayed …..

When through the woods and forest glades I wander

And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;

When I look down from the lofty mountain grandeur,

And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze….

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee

How great thou art, How great Thou art’…..
