A person was stabbed to death following an argument over a packet of heroin.

Boralesgamuwa Police said the murder took place at Jayanthi Mawatha in Gangarama Road,

Werahara, Boralesgamuwa. An argument between two friends concerning a packet heroin had resulted in the murder of Rukmalage Janaka Prasad Perera (38), a resident of Jayanthi Mawatha, Gangarama Road, Werahara, Boralesgamuwa. He was a father of two and his wife was 5 months pregnant.

The suspect stabber was arrested while in hiding at Kahatawatte, Gangarama Road, Werahara with the sharp knife used for the murder.

He was a three wheel driver by profession and heavily addicted to heroin.

A top police officer has stated that the person who was taken into custody regarding the murder has confessed to the police that he has given Rs.1,100 to the murdered person Prasad Perera to buy heroin, but as the price of the drug has gone up he has bought some heroin with some additional money of his own and consumed that all alone at his house without giving it to the person who ordered it. When he went to Prasad’s house to collect his money Prasad has taken a iron rod and had hit him inside the house and then out side the premises. At that time the culprit has taken his knife and stabbed Prasad to death.

Prasad, who was badly injured by the stabbing was immediately taken to the hospital with the help of neighbours by the 1990 Suwasariya Ambulance service, but at admission he was pronounced dead.
