Remains of Zion Church bomber exhumed

The remains of the suicide bomber who attacked Zion Church in Batticaloa on Easter Sunday were exhumed under strict police protection at the Kalliyankadu Cemetery on Monday evening in the presence of Batticaloa Magistrate I.M. Rizwan, Batticaloa Judicial Medical Officer and officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The head and other remains of the suicide bomber Mohamed Nazar Mohamed Azad of Kattankudy, which were buried at the Hindu cemetery in Kalliyankadu in the Batticaloa Municipal Council area, led to a protest on August 27 by the public. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and four of the protesters were hospitalised.

Four members including Parliamentarian S. Viyalandiran, two female Batticaloa municipal councillors were produced before the courts in connection with the protests.
