Another suspect in nabbed in Peliyagoda

The Police Organized Crime Prevention Unit on Monday arrested a suspect in Peliyagoda in connection with the double murder near the Madampitiya Cemetery on August 14, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

Two underworld members had been hacked by several persons near the Madampitiya Cemetery in Grandpass on August 14, around 4.00 pm. The suspects had arrived in a three-wheeler.

The double murder is believed to be the result of a dispute between two rival underworld gangs.

Although the two injured persons were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital, they were pronounced dead upon admission.

The victims were identified as 39-year-old S.G. Sampath Niroshana alias ‘Anamalu Ranga’ and 22-year-old Kasim Asanar Imran. Both victims are residents of Mattakkuliya.

The suspect who was arrested yesterday in connection with the double murder has been identified as 24-year-old Dilshan Maduwantha, a resident of Ferguson Road, Colombo 15.

The suspect was scheduled to be produced in the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
