The ongoing global Bohra conference is an ideal platform for restoring Sri Lanka’s image as a safe tourist destination, UNP Anuradhapura District MP Chandima Gamage said.

The Parliamentarian said this conference will boost the tourism industry which was badly hit by the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Speaking to the media at Temple Trees yesterday, MP Gamage said that around 21,000 Dawoodi Bohras from around the world are attending the ongoing World Annual Bohra Conference at the main Bohra Mosque in Colombo. The conference will generate at least US$ 51 million in foreign exchange.

Responding to a question from a journalist regarding the inconveniences faced by commuters due to heavy traffic congestion prevailing in the Bambalapitiya area as a result of this conference, MP Gamage said that it is our duty to ensure the safety and security of the conference participants throughout their stay.

He also said the present government is committed to resolving the shortage of teachers and doctors in the next few months.

“During the last four years, the government has been able to implement massive development projects despite severe challenges,” said the MP.
