One more suspect arrested in chief jailor's murder

Police has arrested one more suspect in connection with the murder of the Welikada Prison training school's chief jailor.

Chief jailor Ruwan Jayaratne was shot dead near the Kuleegoda junction in Ambalangoda by an unidentified gunman on August 3.  A T-56 assault rifle is believed to have been used in the killing.

The suspect was arrested around 3:55 pm yesterday.

The 27-year-old suspect, a resident of Galagodawatte, Kuleegoda.

The police have recovered a motorcycle used for the murder, a magazine with 12 ammunition.

Another suspect has also been taken into custody in connection with the murder.

The 42-year-old suspect, a resident of Thalgasgoda, Ambalangoda.

Both of them will be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court today.

Further investigations are being conducted.
