A fisherman in the village of Karaitivu in the Ampara district struck gold yesterday with a massive haul of paraw fish (kumbala paraw), which saw villagers throng to the beach to share the happy moment and get their supply.

The event was a happy one for the whole village for the massive haul of some 10,000 kgs of fish was enough for a day’s requirement. People thronged the beach to get their fish free from the fisherman, P. Namasivayam, instead of buying fish for Rs.150 a kg in the village.

As the news spread, people from neighboring villages too came to the beach to buy paraw fish for Rs 200.00 a kg and above.

Some were even able to sell fish from the leftovers lying on the beach.
