Cops hunt for suspect in massive rent-a-car racket

Peliyagoda Police Special Crimes Investigations Bureau is investigating a massive racket in which the suspect allegedly stole parts of cars he rented and in one instance, even allegedly stole a car.

Police are on the lookout for the suspect identified as Udugoda Geethika Lasantha Rodrigo of Wadduwa. The suspect is wanted in connection with stealing parts of cars he rented and then abandoning the vehicles on the road. One such vehicle has been traced by the Weeragula Police.

It is suspected that two policemen from the Colombo Port were also involved in this racket. One of the stolen motor vehicles had been purchased by a Sub Inspector, it is alleged.

The suspect is facing a number of financial misappropriation cases pending before the Panadura Chief Magistrate’s Court in which the Panadura Police Special Crimes Investigations Bureau had conducted investigations.

The Peliyagoda Police Special Crime Investigations Bureau is conducting investigations to arrest the suspect.

Two weeks ago, the suspect had made a complaint to the Wadduwa Police MOIB Branch against one of the police officers of Fort Police regarding a rented motorcar.
