Garage owner in hot water

Panadura Division Senior Superintendent of Police S. D. Wickramasinghe had directed the Wadduwa Police OIC to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into a complaint made by K.S. Fernando, a resident of a house near a garage at Galle Road, Talpitiya South, Wadduwa that the garage pollutes the environment creating a serious health hazard to the public.

He also stated in his complaint that his three storey house has been damaged due to the garage that is run by an accused in a murder and robbery case pending before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.

He claimed that the garage was built without a plan approved from the Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha. The garage ground has a pit filled with stagnant water where dengue mosquitoes breed, the complaint states.

Allegedly, the garage owner has obtained permit from the Central Environmental Authority and the Panadura Pradesiya Sabha misleading the officials there. The complainant also stated that the relevant authorities have been informed about the issue on numerous occasions but no action has been taken.
