Former Corporal of the Army Intelligence Unit Lalith Rajapaksa, who was arrested over the abduction and assault of senior journalist and former Nation Deputy Editor Keith Noyahr was granted bail by the Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate C.H.G.Liyanage.

The suspect was released on two sureties of Rs.2,500,000 each. The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on him.

Keith Noyahr and his family left for Australia soon after he was released by his abductors in 2008 and never returned save for brief visits, fearing reprisals. Noyahr was abducted outside his home in Dehiwela on May 22, 2008.

Army Intelligence Staff Sergeant Chamika Sumith Kumara was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday over the Keith Noyahr abduction case.

The suspect was produced before the Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate’s Court for an identification perade.

The Magistrate ordered to remand the suspect till August 27.
