Six years RI for drug kingpin Kanjipani Imran

Drug kingpin Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran alias Kanjipani Imran was yesterday sentenced to six-years Rigorous Imprisonment by the Colombo High Court for possessing and trafficking of 5.3 kilograms of cannabis.

When the case came up before Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga, the accused pleaded guilty to two charges filed over possessing and trafficking of 5.3 kilograms of cannabis on September 13, 2018.

Kanjipani Imran is currently being held under remand custody over several other court cases. He was held under the custody of the Colombo Crimes Division after obtaining a detention order from the Defence Secretary for a period of three months under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Kanjipani Imran was arrested on March 28 this year by local law enforcement officers when attempting to board a flight to the Maldives on arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport from Dubai on flight LZ 547, after the UAE authorities deported him and three others. He was arrested along with Drug Kingpin Makandure Madhush on February 5 by Dubai law enforcement officers.
