GMOU won’t support strike

The Grade Medical Officers’ Union (GMOU) does not support the two-day island wide strike of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), its Secretary Dr. Niroshan Premaratne said.

The Secretary has informed the Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry in writing that it does not support the strike because it the strike is “unfair and irrational and politically motivated”.

“The reasons for the strike are not genuine and are aimed at misleading the public. Our opinion is that the GMOA’s attempt is to force not implement the court order by presenting false facts. Therefore this could be treated as ‘contempt of court’. We like to point out that this strike will be unsuccessful. The OPDs in only selected hospitals will go on strike while the rest of hospitals will function normally. The Colombo National Hospital will not be affected by the strike,” the GMOU said in its statement.
