Providing a smart solution to the traffic congestion in the metropolis, the passenger boat service of the Beira Lake from Union Place to Colombo Fort will be launched under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today.
Travel time will be only nine to ten minutes with the service, in comparison to 30 minutes by road.
This project is implemented according to a concept of Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
The boat service will be maintained by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy.
Passengers will be provided with free rides during the first month as a promotional move. Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Arjuna Ranatunga, and Mangala Samaraweera and Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake will also participate.
