Two more NTJ trainees arrested

The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) yesterday arrested two Muslim priests who allegedly had terrorist training with Easter bomber leader Mohamed Zahran Hashim at Hashim’s Nuwara Eliya training camp.

The arrested Muslim priests or maulavis; Mohamed Hanifa Mohamed Rizmi, aged 28, and Mohamed Nazaar Mohamed Nimzad, aged 28; had been Islamic priests of the Hettipola Jumma Mosque and the Nikaweratiya Jumma Mosque, police said. The two maulavis in custody allegedly had bomb-making and weapons-training with the now dead suicide bomber leader Zahran at his training facility in the Blackpool area of Nuwara Eliya, TID sources disclosed.

Zahran led the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks that killed over 250 people during worship services at three churches and several festive venues in luxury hotels.

TID said sources said their investigations were continuing to identify and intercept every person connected to the Easter attacks, and anyone connected to terrorist outfits such as Zahran’s National Thowheed Jama’ath (NTJ) or their affiliates.
