Two persons were hacked by several persons who had come in a three-wheeler near the Madampitiya Cemetery in Grandpass, Colombo, yesterday.
Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told the Daily News that the incident had taken place around 4 p.m. yesterday and the two injured persons had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital but were pronounced dead upon admission.
The relatives of the deceased had told Police that the attackers belonged to an underworld group who had been released from prison recently. It is believed that the attack was a result of previous rival gang attacks. One of the victims was identified as a 39-year-old underworld figure known as S.G. Sampath Niroshana alias ‘Anamalu Ranga’ and the other victim is a 22-year-old youth identified as Kasim Asanar Imran. Both victims are residents of Mattakkuliya.
However, when contacted, Police said that the identities of the victims had not been confirmed by last evening.
