Adverse windy weather warning

The Meteorology Department yesterday issued a notice warning urging people to be cautions of adverse strong windy weather condition further.

There is a possibility for a sudden increase of wind speeds upto 60 kmph over the island particularly in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, North-Western, Northern and Central Provinces and in the Trincomalee District and sudden increase of wind speeds up to (65 to 70 kmph) are also possible over the above land areas particularly in the afternoon and night.

According to the warning notice, sea areas extending from Pottuvil to Trincomalee via Hambanthota, Colombo, Puttalam and Kankesanthurai will be very rough at times as the wind speed will increase up to (60 to 70) kmph at times. Sudden increase of wind speeds up to 80 kmph is also possible over the above sea areas particularly in the afternoon and night and temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers too.

Fishermen are informed that it is dangerous to venture into seas and Naval and fishing communities are called to be vigilant.
