Oneli most outstanding player of Western Province TT tournament

Oneli Lehansa of Museaus College Colombo was adjudged most outstanding player of the Western Province Open and Junior ranking tournament conducted by the Western Province Table Tennis Association at the S. Thomas College Mt Lavinia Gymnasium during the week end. Oneli the 14 year old promising player won the three events girls under 15, under 18 singles events and open women singles event in this tournament .She beat Oshadi Umayangana of Buddhist Girls School Mt Lavinia in two straight sets 11/8, 11/6 to take the open women singles title.

Sanuth Jayasumana of Lyceum Internatioanl Gampaha was the champion in the boys under 18 singles while finishing runners up in the under 15 boys singles final after losing to Royalist Aathif Rusthi.Dewmeth Weerasena of Lyceum International Nugegoda had a tough final in the boys under 12 event before defeating Anandian Danuk Lamasuriya 13/11, 14/12. Meanwhile Mekalya Fernando of Museaus had a hard fought three setter game 9/11, 11/7, 11/7 to beat Sasni Panagoda of Sumedha College Gampaha. This tournament organized by the 82Group of Old boys of St Johns College Nugegoda to mark the 104th year celebrations of the college . Nearly 500 paddlers from Western Province took part in this tournament , Malins Alwis the President of the St John,s OBA was the chief guest and gave away the awards . Secretary of the Western Province TTA Chandana Perera also graced the occasion .
