Gota website re-directs to Prisons Dept

Internet hackers have already begun to wreak their havoc with the country’s democratic system with the websites of two major emerging political personalities, one already campaigning for the presidency, being manipulated to confuse and mislead the interested citizen.

A website containing the domain name ‘’, when visited, re-directs the visitor to the website , a situation which caused consternation in political circles yesterday.

Meanwhile, those who tried to visit the website ‘’, which promotes former Defence Ministry secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, were re-directed to the official site of the Prisons Department.

A spokesman for Minister Sajith Premadasa however dismissed the controversy over the website, saying the website was not operated by them and is, anyway, up for sale.

Users who pointed their browsers to the above site were instead directed to Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s site. “We have nothing to do with this site and cannot comment on what has happened. However, we will be launching a separate new official site soon,” the Premadasa spokesman added. The spokesman further added that discussions are being carried out to take necessary action in this regard as it has an effect on Minister Sajith Premadasa’s profiling.

A spokesperson for Gotabaya Rajapaksa was not immediately available for comment on the website link to the Prisons Department.
