Chandrika clinches silver and bronze medals in Poland

Former National Badminton Champion Chandrika de Silva excelled at the World Senior Badminton championships held in Poland on Sunday when she bagged the women’s singles silver and women’s doubles bronze medals to bring honour and fame to the country . Chandrika who participated in the over 40 age group was the only medal winner for Sri Lanka in this competitive tournament in which 29 countries took part

.This was Chandrika’s second silver medal in this championship and earlier she won silver in the championships held in Kochin, India in 2017.Both times she lost to the same German opponent in the finals after a close battle.

Sri Lanka finished in 23rd place in the medals tally while Germany ,England and Japan finished in first three places respectively . Chandrika the nine time National champion proved her ability once again in this tournament with good performances . She lost to German shuttler Claudia

Vogelgsang in the womens singles final to take silver while she partnered Claudia Vogelgsang to take the womens doubles bronze medal.

Chandrika de Silva the dedication shuttler won the National singles title from 1997 to 2003 and regained the title in 2005.

In 2004, she won one silver and three bronze medals at the 2004 South Asian Games. At the 2005 Nepal Satellite tournament she clinched the women’s singles and mixed doubles event, in the same year, she reached the women’s doubles quarterfinals at the Asian Championships. She also won the women’s and mixed doubles titles in Syria and Jordan.
