SLR to launch e-tickets by year end

Sri Lanka Railway (SLR) plans to introduce the e-ticketing facility for passengers by the end of this year, SLR General Manager Dilantha Fernando said.

“We expect to operate this e-ticketing service using via, QR code system, smart cards and automatic machines. The usual system of issuing passenger tickets will continue till passengers are familiar with the new system.” the General Manager said.

He said construction activities of the new elevated railway line between Maradana and Nugegoda along the Kelani Valley Railway Line was scheduled to begin this year.

“Measures will also be taken to increase the number of railway tracks currently available in the section from Maradana to Colombo Fort up to eight in order to reduce railway traffic. We also expect to introduce the electronic signal system for the Polgahawela – Kurunegala Railway Line,” Fernando said.
