SLITHM celebrates 40th graduation ceremony

Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) celebrated its 40th Graduation day on August 5, at the BMICH.

Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Affairs, John Amarathunga, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Manesh Fernando General Manager Hilton Hotel Colombo Guest of Honour. The ceremony was held in the presence of dignitaries from the government, hospitality industry and academia.

The graduation ceremony is the most important event in the SLITHM calendar as it marks the successful completion of the four-year management diploma in hotel operations and other management courses. This year’s graduation ceremony was the 40th since its inception and a total of 115 graduates move in to the world as fully qualified tourism and hospitality professionals.

Chairman of SLITHM Dilip De Silva addressing the event said, “We will be entering into a partnerships with international training organizations in Europe and Australia to facilitate students transfer programs for degree and master specializations. In addition to the above , SLITHM for the first time in the 53 year history was proud to announce that approximately 30 students would be commencing their internships in Dubai, India, Malaysia and Maldives with international hotel chains. It is expected that this number will increase to over 50 by the end of 2019. It is expected that SLITHM will be able to cater the demands of the society with various strategies being implemented”.

A total of 2880 students pass out as fully fledged graduates at the ceremony. The top twoawards at this occasion, namely the Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association Trophy for the Most Outstanding Student in the 3 Year Management Diploma was presented to Hashini W. Samarawickrama, while the Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association Trophy for the Most Outstanding Graduate was awarded to M.D.N. Sashinka Sinhasiri by the chief guest John Amarathunga.
