Vijayabahu Motocross, the finest motor racing competition organized by Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment together with Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association will be held on 25 August 2019 for the 17th consecutive year at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment premisesin Boyagane, KurunegalaThe event is organized adding colour to the challenging tracks prepared in optimum standards in the backdrop of natural landscape of historic Ethugalpura Kingsdom.

A total of 13 events will be conducted including one for juveniles under 10 years in the50cc and two events for under 15 in the under 65 to85 cc classes according to the Commandant of the regiment Major General Chandana Gunawardena who was speaking at a press briefing at Taj Samudra Hotel on Friday Two foreign women from USA and Indonesia will be taking part for the first time

Vijayabahu Motorcross, motor racing event was organized for the first time in the year 2000 with the participation of racing riders of the Sri Lanka Army, those of Waymba province and island wide with a view to popularize the sport and also to raise funds for the welfare of the members of the Regiment and of their families who laid down their lives or became differently abled having fought valiantly in the war against the terrorists. Last year’s Vijayabahu Motocross concluded very successfully with the participation of more than 100 competitors island wide including Ishan Dasanayake, Iwon V. Gurusinghe, Sameera Premarathne, Nihal Wijerathne, Lahiru Jeewantha, Buddika Silva and international riders From Japan, epitomizing the massive organizing capacity of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. This year’s event will undoubtedly become a great success with the unreserved commitment and organizing capacity of Colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant and all ranks.

Funds raised by previous Motocross event were utilized in pious ventures such as construction of houses for the members of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, providing infrastructure facilities for offices and other ranks, awarding scholarships and donation of computes for the children of the members of Vijabahu Infantry Regiment to excel in their studies. The regiment has build a gymnasium and a play ground to develop the sport abilities of officers and other ranks. Some of the schools are also utilizing this facility. the funds raised by the 17th Vijayabahu Motocross will also be utilized for welfare and social development activities.Airvoice is the main sponsor with Singer Sri Lanka as the co sponsor.
