Visiting US official calls on Mahinda

The United States Acting Assistant Secretary of the State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice G. Wells called on Opposition Leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz accompanied the acting Assistant Secretary of the State for South and Central Asian Affairs for the meeting with the Opposition Leader.

According to the media division of the Opposition Leader, the meeting had taken place at the Opposition Leader’s Official Residence at Wijerama Mawatha and Prof.G.L. Pieris had also been present.

However, in response to a query made by the Daily News regarding the matters discussed, the media spokesman said that it was a routine courtesy call on the Opposition Leader and not for any specific purpose.
