Collection of parables and proverbs adds to SL culture

A collection of parables, tales and proverbs titled Wisdom at our Doorstep compiled from various traditions by Lukman Harees, a UK-based Sri Lankan author and human rights activist, was launched in the auditorium of Hindu College, Colombo 4, recently.

The event has been organised by the Learning Centre of the school and students from many schools and a representative gathering are expected to participate.

The book has been recommended as “a treat which will undoubtedly nurture the young and the adult mind alike,” according to a review by the Principal of the School, Parameswaran, as well as by the reputed senior Editor and journalist, late Jayatileke De Silva and D.M.D. Dissanayake, former Principal of D.S Senanayake College.

The keynote address was delivered by Most Ven. Galkande Dhammananda Thera, Chairperson of the Walpola Rahula Institute, Kotte, on the theme ‘Harmony through Parables’.

Harees is a regular writer and has authored other publications in the past Mirage of Dignity in the Highways of Human Progress, published in the US, Clouding the Crescent in Sri Lanka in English and two Sinhala poetic sociological works – Thewatha and Dhurastha Daknaya. Wisdom at our Doorstep was published by the ‘Hameedia – My Friend’ Project.
