SL Consul General to Cambodia soon

President Maithripala Sirisena has stated that he will appoint a Consul General of Sri Lanka to Cambodia soon.

The President made these remarks yesterday (10) when he was attending religious activities at a temple in the capital city Phnom Penh of Cambodia. He said until an embassy is established, consuls would be appointed to coordinate diplomatic activities in Cambodia. President Sirisena also added that Sri Lanka and Cambodia should work closely to spread Theravada Buddhism to the world. The bilateral discussions between Sri Lanka and Cambodia aimed at improving investment opportunities and trade.

It is reported that President Sirisena has also invited the Prime Minister of Cambodia to visit Sri Lanka in the future. The President planted a ‘Na plant’ at the temple following the religious activities. In a brief speech, President said that protecting the environment and sustainable development are a part and parcel of Buddhist philosophy. The four-day official visit commenced last Wednesday (07).
