CID: 600 officers probing 10,379 cases

A total of 10,379 complaints are currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), its Director SSP Shani Abeysekara said.

Speaking to a group of journalists at the CID premises along with Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara yesterday, the CID Director said most of the comaplints were related to frauds.

He said those complaints were being investigated by about 600 officers in the CID.

For the first time, the media personnel were allowedin to various Divisions in the CID premises to get familiarize with their functions. An official at the INTERPOL Division of the CID said that INTERPOL’s red notices have been issued on 118 Sri Lankan fugitives as at present. He said another 78 Sri Lankans are under INTERPOL’s Blue notices. Blue notices are issued when there is no warrant against that individual but he or she is a suspect or witness in a case. He explained that there is no public access to INTERPOL red notices after 2016 as those are not published in the web.
