Arjun Aloysius gets relaxed bail condition

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne yesterday permitted Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius to appear before CID on last Sunday of each month instead of appearing weekly.

Filing a motion before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, Attorney Sajitha Jayawaradena appearing on behalf Arjun Aloysius pleaded to relax the bail condition imposed on him. The Magistrate made this order consequent to a motion filed by lawyers of PTL owner Arjun Aloysius that his bail condition be relaxed.

The Magistrate made this order when the magisterial inquiry into the Central Bank bond issue was taken up before court.

The Counsel also pleaded to release the money on suspect’s RTGS account which have been recently blocked by the Central Bank. Arjun Aloysius was accused of allegedly aiding and abetting and conspiring with Arjuna Mahendran to misappropriate Rs. 688 million public funds during the Bond auction held on February 27, 2015.

Senior State Counsel Lakimini Girihagama appearing on behalf of the Attorney General’s Department pleaded to allow the CID to send several productions before the Govenment Analyst, which was obtained as part of investigations into the Central Bond issue.

The Magistrate instructed the prosecution to make their applications on August 20 and ordered all suspects to appear before court on the same date.The Magistrate also ordered both parties to make their submissions on the same date.

Attorney Sajitha Jayawardana with Amila Peiris, Dayal Wanniarachchi and Aravinda Gamage appeared on behalf of Arjun Aloysius.
