Former Forces’ heads promoted for bravery

Former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and former Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke have been promoted to the ranks of Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Air Force respectively.

They were bestowed the highest honorary military ranks by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Air Force are the highest honorary ranks awarded to a Naval and Air Force officer during their military career.

The Gazette Extraordinary notification of the promotions was issued on Tuesday

The President has promoted them to the highest honorary military ranks considering their outstanding gallantry, meritorious performance and distinguished service to the country during the humanitarian operation and the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
