Three more JMI members arrested

Three more members of the banned extremist group ‘Jamathei Millathu Ibrahim’ (JMI) were arrested by a special police team in Ampara yesterday increasing the number of JMI members arrested within this week to nine.

The arrested was made by the special Police team on the information provided by the State Intelligence Service (SIS).

One of the arrested suspects is said to be a resident of Polonnaruwa who lived close to the residence of President Maithripala Sirisena and the others are from Mawanella and Thulhiriya. Two of them have been identified as students of the Open University at Nawala.

The Police based on the SIS information arrested three members of banned JMI on August 4 in Ampara and another three on the following day. Four of the six suspects were also identified as university students.

Investigations are being conducted.
