Insufficient evidence to indict six Army officers- AG tells CID

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) told the Gampaha Magistrate's Court yesterday that the Attorney General has informed that legal action would not be taken against six out of eight Army officers named as suspects in connection with the Keith Noyahr abduction case as there is insufficient evidence to indict them.

The CID informed the court that the AG has informed that indictment would be filed only against Army Intelligence Officer Lalith Rajapaksa and former Army Sergeant Major Premananda Udalagama.

Police requested the court to summon the other six suspects to court to release them from the case as no legal action would be taken against them. Accordingly, Gampaha Magistrate D.A. Ruwanpathirana issued notices to summon them to court on August 23.
