SLPP will meet aspirations of Tamil people - Vasudeva

UPFA Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara said they have paid attention towards proposals which should be taken with regard to the aspirations of the Tamil people in order to defeat the TNA.

Nanayakkara was speaking to the media after a discussion held with delegates of several parties at the official residence of the Opposition Leader in Wijerama Road, Colombo, on Monday.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara said leaders of several parties representing the Tamil people accompanied by the Samajawadi Janatha Peramuna (Socialist People’s Front) met Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa for the discussion at which attention was also drawn to the proposals to be taken with regard to the aspirations of the Tamil people in order to defeat the TNA.

He said the SLPP (Pohottuwa) had already finalised all its arrangements for the forthcoming election and the only outstanding matter was to announce the name of its Presidential Candidate. All parties would unanimously approve of and stand by the Presidential Candidate named by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, without objection, by giving up their earlier differing standpoints.

What he could only say at present was that discussions with the SLFP were progressing successfully. More than that, a greater step forward was taken yesterday which he was not in a position to reveal, the UPFA Parliamentarian said.

Far from giving them a formidable challenge, the Democratic National Front was now not in a position to even stand straight.

The crisis within the UNP has run very deep, he said.
