Sri Lanka Insurance Motor Plus introduces mobile app; new benefits

Sri Lanka Insurance (SLIC) last week launched its digital improvement strategy featuring one of 83 improvements the company hopes to implement in the near future, at the Colombo Hilton.

Managing Director SLIC, Dushyantha Basnayake said SLIC has benchmarked the industry by introducing comprehensive mobile application for the customers. SLI mobile app is available for SLIC customers on Android platform from August 1 and will be launched on IOS platform in near future streamlining the insurance requirements of customers.

CEO SLIC, Chandana L. Aluthgama said that SLIC is aimed to improve significantly the efficiency with which over Rs. 750 million a month in claims is dispersed.

Under the new settlement procedure claims below Rs 75,000 can be claimed within three hours after a technical officer’s visit. Claims below Rs. 75,000 does not require repair estimates, repair bills and salvage and after repair inspection. Claims above Rs. 75,000 but below Rs. 500,000 are fast-tracked by the insurance company which will deal directly with the repair company for documentation.

Taking another step forward, Sri Lanka Insurance Motor Plus also provides free personal accidents cover worth of Rs. 1,000,000/- to the insured against accidental death and total permanent disability for private cars, double cabs and private dual purpose vehicles making it superlative with competitive motor insurance products in the market.

Also SLIC app is armed with advanced features to track and identify the accurate accident location of the customer in an emergency situation making it convenient and hassle free for them.

The company has also launched an application which allows customers to use their phones to share locations with technical officers. The application will link with new mobile payment operators.

The application will provide information on policies held by the client. The company is considering implementing a system whereby small claims can be documented by uploading images within the application and dealing with trusted repair agents.

Aluthgama said that over 95% of the claims made from the company is approved and paid.

He cited the collaboration in 1962 with IBM on the request of then Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike as part of a history of the company embracing technology. Aluthgama added that the company aims to settle claims in a time frame between three hours to two days.

Aluthgama called on stakeholders to note the positive impact the company has on the economy. The company is triple AAA-rated and is the leader in the industry. The company has been recognized by Brand Finance favorably.

General Manager SLI, Lalith De Silva said that their operations have to deal with over 1 million customers, their premiums and claims. He said the new changes would make the insurance offering a comprehensive package for all risks.
