Woman who was admitted for stomach surgery has arm amputated

An incident where a woman who was admitted to the Marawila Base Hospital for surgery in her stomach, had her left arm removed, was reported from the Puttalam Base Hospital yesterday. Patricia Leelawathie, 78, of Madampe got herself admitted to the Hospital for womb surgery on July 20. However, two days later, when she woke up from surgery, she had found that her left hand has been amputated.

This woman is presently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit. Her son, Upendra Almeida said the doctors of the Marawila Hospital had made this blunder due to negligence of hospital staffers.

Hospital Director Dr. Nirmala Loganathan, when contacted said she has received information of this incident and will investigate the incident.
