A Dog’s Journey

Tear-jerker for canine lovers

Pet owners will love this but Baily aka Big Boss will have even the harshest critics welling tears up in their eyes. The sequel to W. Bruce Cameron’s 2010 novel ‘A Dog’s Purpose’, this film too follows Bailey and his journey through several reincarnations. It is a study of how the four legged mutt changes his purpose through each of his lives.

Bailey is about to be put to a rest and before his soul leaves for another life he observing his family fall apart. At his deathbed his owner, Ethan, makes a request for him to return to look after CJ, his granddaughter, just the way he has looked after him. Bailey is reborn as Max, Molly and more. Tracking down CJ and keeping her happy and safe becomes his life’s mission.

The film is full of heartwarming moments exuding unconditional love and loyalty. You would not be able to help feeling teary eyed when you witness how this pooch goes all out on his way to keep his word to his master. Though you get some stereotyped episodes, the film ceases to go beyond the sentimental clichés.

The story unfolds through the eyes of a dog. Thus some actions and scenes tend to be repetitive. This exhausts the viewers as they are constantly on the lookout for something refreshing to keep their eyes glued to the screen. This feature also makes the scenes rather predictable.

For many decades films based on man’s best friend had spun the numbers at the box office. You get many money earners like ‘Marley and Me’, ‘Hachiko’, ‘Bolt’, ‘Benji’, ‘Beethoven’ and more which have warmed the hearts of moviebuffs. ‘A Dog’s Journey’ can join this queue.

If you are a canine fan and love mushy love stories, ‘A Dog’s Journey’ is a good choice for you.
