Two JMI terror suspects caught in Ampara

Two more Islamist terror suspects, including the Anuradhapura district leader of the Jammiyathul Millathu Ibrahimi (JMI), were arrested yesterday by the Ampara Police. The second suspect is said to be a leader of the JMI in the Eastern Province.

The JMI, considered the partner organisation of the NTJ, was banned in Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attacks.

The Ampara police acting on information received from the State Intelligence Service arrested the suspects, the Police Media Spokesman’s office said. The suspects are said to have received weapons training in Nuwara Eliya under NTJ leader Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of the Easter Sunday suicide bomb attacks last April. According to Police, one of the suspects is a student of the Oluvil campus.
