Wildlife appointments given on merit - Department

The Wildlife Department has rejected claims by voluntary trackers that a batch of youths were absorbed into the permanent cadre on political grounds.

Voluntary trackers yesterday said the department has already sent a letter seeking Ministry approval to make them permanent as Field Assistants. According to Department sources, 280 wildlife guards were given appointments yesterday morning. “These wildlife guards have been selected without taking their political backgrounds into account.

They were selected through a competitive examination and more than 14,000 candidates have applied for these positions,” sources said. The department has followed impartial and transparent procedure to select suitable candidates, sources said.

A Wildlife Department official on the grounds of anonymity said voluntary trackers are absorbed into the permanent cadre as Field Assistants and there are 42 individuals among the protesting voluntary trackers who have met the qualification requirement.“We have confirmed all those who have met recruitment criteria of the department,” he said.
