Plans afoot to develop Colombo Port’s WCT

Plans are afoot to develop the West Container Terminal (WCT) of the Colombo Port at a cost of US$ 500 million by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

The proposed East Container Terminal (ECT) will also be developed under the public-private partnership in parallel with the WCT development.

Under the master plan of the Colombo Port Expansion Project, the East Container Terminal, West Container Terminal and the South Container Terminal are being developed as three major projects. The development of the Colombo South Container Terminal is being implemented and it is expected to handle 7.4 million containers after the development.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is assisting Sri Lanka to upgrade the Colombo South Container Terminal under a public-private partnership project.
