Gampaha receives Smart Sri Lanka centre

The sixth centre of the Smart Sri Lanka project implemented across the country by the Presidential Secretariat will be opened on August 5 in Veyangoda in the Gampaha district.

The programme aims to provide Sri Lankan youth with knowledge and technology to guide them to adapt to the modern job market by identifying the educational changes that lie ahead with the latest technology in the developing world. Parallel to the National Development Programme, Let’s Stand Together For The Country, the sixth district centre of the Smart Sri Lanka Project will be inaugurated by President Maithripala Sirisena on August 5 in Veyangoda in the Gampaha district, a press release issued by the Gampaha District Secretariat said.

Carrier guidance programmes are designed to create suitable employment opportunities for youth who have acquired GCE (O/L), GCE (A/L) or higher educational qualifications promoting manpower employment opportunities in the Gampaha district in which the population is 24 million.

Smart Sri Lanka Project Director General Eric Weerawardena said that programmes are being implemented with the assistance of the Manpower and Employment Department at the Divisional Secretariat level.

The programme was initiated in the Puttalam District Secretariat with the concept of President

Maithripala Sirisena and other centres have been established in the Batticaloa, Ampara, Mullaitivu and Moneragala districts. According to the Government Information Department Special Media Unit, centres will facilitate the youth to register for new employment opportunities and obtain employment opportunities.
