High Court rejects Pujitha’s, Hemasiri’s preliminary objection against AG’s revision application

The Colombo High Court yesterday rejected the preliminary objection raised by IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernnado against the revision application filed by Attorney General.

High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi fixed the revision application for inquiry on September 6.

The Attorney General had filed a revision application in Colombo High Court challenging the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s decision to grant bail on IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence

Secretary Hemasiri Fernado who were arrested on charges of criminal negligence and the failure to prevent to minimise the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando yesterday appeared before the Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi regarding the revision application filed by Attorney General. Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernado and IGP Pujith Jayasundara who has been sent on compulsory leave were released on bail on July 9 with a surety of Rs. 500,000 each citing that enough evidence has not been presented to prove the charges including aiding and abetting in committing manslaughter.

Counsel appearing for former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernnado pointed out to the High Court the two letters which were sent from the State Intelligence Service and the other letter sent from the National Intelligence Agency regarding the suicide bomb attacks and saying that both were contradictory to each other, therefore they had not taken any action regarding the Easter Sunday attacks without correct information.

The case was fixed inquiry on September 6 by the Colombo High Court.
