SLFP to hold discussions with President, Opposition Leader

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said that the SLFP would hold its convention on August 11 only after holding bilateral discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. He was speaking at a meeting of journalists in the Kurunegala District held yesterday in Hettipola, Kurunegala.

However, he said that the SLFP was yet to receive an invitation from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) to participate in their convention. Further, the Central Committee of the SLFP was yet to decide whether to participate in the SLPP rally or not, if invited. The General Secretary said that no SLFPers could disobey the party's code and act on their own. He added that about five such SLFP councillors attached to different local bodies have faced disciplinary inquiries for violating the party's rules and regulations.

MP Jayasekara said that if any councillor were to act in such a manner in the future, their party membership would be at risk.
