International flights from three local airports soon

The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday approved a proposal by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Rantunga with regard to the commencement of commercial flights to foreign destinations in the region from three local airports was also approved.

Those flights are expected to be operated from Batticoloa, Ratmalana and Palaly airports, which the government has already taken steps to upgrade.

Accordingly, the subject ministry will instruct the Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority to certify those airports to commence these flights in accordance with the accepted standards.

In addition, another Cabinet memorandum presented by the Transport and Civil Aviation Minister to enter into a bilateral agreement on aviation services with the Netherlands.

The signing of the agreement had been agreed upon at the preliminary discussions held earlier.

Through the Cabinet memorandum, the Minister also sought approval to take steps to productively implement the agreement.
