Six Indians nabbed at BIA for gold smuggling

Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) apprehended six Indian nationals attempting to smuggle 737 grams of gold valued at Rs. 5.89 million out of the country on Tuesday.

The suspects were to leave for Chennai on SriLankan Airlines flight no. UL 274 at 5.30 am, Customs sources said.

Meanwhile, BIA Customs officials also apprehended another suspect, a Sri Lankan bound to Singapore with foreign currency equivalent to Rs. 3.9 million, on the same day.

He was arrested with US$ 22,000 and Singapore dollars 381, Customs said.
