Akila calls for academics to help boost education

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam urged intellectuals and educationists including academic staff of universities to submit their proposals and ideas for development of the education sector.

“Such proposals submitted for education sector development by intellectuals and academically qualified personnel are important and appreciated,” he said, requesting them to submit their proposals promptly to him.

The Minister was speaking at the re-launch ceremony of ‘Buthisarana’ yesterday at the Education Ministry. Ancient books which have cultural value are republished with the mediation of the libraries and Documentation Service Board, under this initiative. The Minister said this move to republish historic masterpieces is an invaluable step to preserve our culture. Under this programme, several historic books including the Mahawamsa have already been republished.

He suggested extending this initiative to republishing Tamil books too. He further suggested translating such books into Sinahala and vice versa.
