Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekera has lodged a complaint with the Police against Attorney at-Law Manoj Gamage.
“The complaint had been lodged at the Colombo Fort Police Station on Sunday over a case of the lawyer threatening the SSP at a media conference held last Saturday,” Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Speaking to the Daily News, SP Gunasekara said that during a media briefing held last Saturday, Attorney at-Law Manoj Gamage had threatened the SSP telling him that he may have to don a prison jumper soon.
“SSP Abeysekara is an investigating officer involved in investigating the case on Dr. Mohammed Shafi. In fact, he cannot threaten such an investigating officer under the Victim and Witness Protection Act at any cost,” SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He also noted that they also intend to lodge a complaint against Attorney at Law Manoj Gamage with the Victim and Witness Protection Authority and also take the matter to the Supreme Court.
