Seasoned SLBC announcer Kusum Peiries dies

Seasoned radio announcer, lyricist and dubbing artiste Kusum Peiries (71) passed away on Sunday (21), while receiving treatment for a heart condition at a private hospital in Ragama.

A product of Kelaniya Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kusum was one of the most renowned announcers at Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation during the 1970s.

She rendered her voice to evergreen radio programmes like Muwan Pelessa and Monarathenna.

Kusum has also penned lyrics for songs like Sihinayaki Oba Nihanda Mediyam Re, Hitha Gaawa Danga Kalaa, Gang Iwure, Bindunu Pemaka, Sithuwili Sirawee, Digu Neth Hasarelle, Asuru Sanin Eka Mohothakadi. She had worked with Thilaka Ranasinghe, Indra Ramanayake, Samadara Kottage, Somasiri Chandrasena, Douglas Ranasinghe, and Ariyasiri Vithanage at Radio Ceylon.

Kusum married her SLBC colleague Neville Peiris and had three children – Wageesha, Thamali and Rajith.

Her daughter Thamali too is a popular radio announcer who has worked at Sirasa FM and Hiru FM.

Her remains lie at 47/1, Swarna Place, Eldeniya, Kadawatha. The final rites will be held at the Kadawatha Public Cemetery tomorrow (24).

Veteran radio announcer Kusum Peiris passes away at 71 (09:28)

Veteran radio announcer, lyricist and dubbing artist Kusum Peiris has passed away last night.

She was 71-years-old when she succumbed due to heart disease. She was diagnosed with heart disease .

Relatives of Kusum Peiris said that she passed away last night while she was being taken to a hospital from home.

Remains will bekept at 47/1, Swarna Place, Eldeniya, Kadawatha.
